Drug testing
Signallers, drivers and all trackside workers, and their employers, are all subject to the Transport & Works Act 1992. It is against the law for employees to work under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and there are legal duties on employers to have procedures in place so this does not happen.

Network Rail and London Underground operate stringent controls which mean that all safety critical workers must have a negative drug test certificate (NCCA or DAMSP) before they can begin work. Medscreen are authorised to issue both certificates.

Medscreen are Link-Up accredited which enables you to comply with the requirements of Railway Standard GE/RT8070, Network Rail and London Underground drug and alcohol policies. We have a reliable 24 hour on-call service, collection centres to make pre-access testing easy, and can manage your random testing programme. We run workshops for supervisors and managers to help them understand the issues around the rail sector’s drug and alcohol policies.
