Drug testing
Any commercial air accident – cargo or passenger – gets publicity. The media exploit this by seeking out and reporting on deficiencies in security, maintenance and staff behaviour. Drug and alcohol misuse features in these stories, indicating that rules are not always followed.

The eight hour ‘bottle to throttle’ principle, - no alcohol in the 8 hours prior to duty - supports the IATA guidelines and local legislation on blood alcohol levels, which should not exceed 20mg per 100ml of blood – one quarter of the UK drink driving limit. A deterrent is needed to minimise the risk of breaching these rules.

Medscreen’s programme management service can mobilise an international network of collecting officers to enable random testing programmes on a worldwide basis. Alternatively we can supply breath testing equipment for use by company personnel whom we could train. Our Employee Assistance Programme is there to help deal with the stresses that might turn people to drink and drugs
