Drug testing
Public and private sector security forces are trusted to protect people and property. Announcing the change to Police Regulations that give them the power to test police officers, the Home Office explanatory notes stated that ‘any perception that a minority of police officers were using drugs and that there was a lack of effective action to counter this, would damage public confidence’. Integrity and impairment were also key concerns.

The same considerations apply to the private security industry. The Security Industry Authority is mandated to regulate the industry, and many businesses within the sector are recognising the benefits of drug testing to demonstrate their integrity.

Medscreen offers advice on how the introduction of drug testing helps focus attention on the issues. We help with policy development, education and the management of pre-employment and random testing programmes. Our ‘for cause’ testing service can be invaluable when countering accusations of drug use by employees.

Programme Management
Medscreen manage the impartial random selection for unannounced drug testing programmes (Random Programme Management) or respond to customers’ own requests for testing (Requested Programme Management).

As an impartial third party, Medscreen reduces the sensitivity associated with random drug screening – we deal in numbers, not names, but provide appropriate records to demonstrate the selection process.
Where customers have to meet drug testing targets which may be audited by a contractor, Medscreen can reduce the pressure by taking the responsibility for scheduling collections.

We provide Certificates of participation and completion for both Random and Requested programmes.
