Drug testing
Public and private sector security forces are trusted to protect people and property. Announcing the change to Police Regulations that give them the power to test police officers, the Home Office explanatory notes stated that ‘any perception that a minority of police officers were using drugs and that there was a lack of effective action to counter this, would damage public confidence’. Integrity and impairment were also key concerns.

The same considerations apply to the private security industry. The Security Industry Authority is mandated to regulate the industry, and many businesses within the sector are recognising the benefits of drug testing to demonstrate their integrity.

Medscreen offers advice on how the introduction of drug testing helps focus attention on the issues. We help with policy development, education and the management of pre-employment and random testing programmes. Our ‘for cause’ testing service can be invaluable when countering accusations of drug use by employees.

Medscreen’s drug awareness courses are designed to provide an understanding and recognition of the indicators of drug and alcohol use and abuse, so that delegates can confidently respond to the provisions of their company policy on drugs and alcohol.

They are aimed at supervisors, managers, staff representatives and others who have a responsibility associated with their company's drug and alcohol policy. The courses cover the sensible use of alcohol, the side effects of medicines and the harmful effects of illegal drugs.

Course content is tailored to the company’s needs. The courses can be presented by Medscreen alone, or in conjunction with company personnel. Medscreen will work with the commissioning department to devise an appropriate content and structure that will support the development, implementation and maintenance of the company’s policy, including the introduction of drug and alcohol testing programmes
